Marie Antoinette did not actually use the phrase...
The phrase was first published in Rousseau’s Confessions when Marie was only 10 years old and most scholars believe that Rousseau coined it himself, or that it was said by Maria-Theresa, the wife of Louis XIV. Even Rousseau (or Maria-Theresa) did not use the exact words but actually Qu’ils mangent de la brioche (“Let them eat brioche [a rich type of bread]”). Marie...

The saying "it's raining cats and dogs" comes from...
Houses had thatched roofs - thick straw, piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the dogs, cats and other small animals (mice, rats, and bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery, and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof, hence the saying, “It’s raining cats and dogs.”

The Myth: Schizophrenic people hear voices in...
We all know about schizophrenia, and we’ve all read jokes about “the voices in my head”. But, contrary to what a lot of people believe, not all people with schizophrenia hear voices in their heads. Auditory hallucinations are very common in schizophrenic people, but they are more likely to hear voices coming from some object outside of their body than inside their mind. Plus, not everyone...

We've gotten many messages in our ask recently, so...
We will not whore you out. We don’t talk about who we are, we don’t mention our friends, and we’re not gonna give a shout out to you. We will not follow back. Ever. Do not bother asking. We do not know if your boyfriend is cheating on you. We do not know if the girl you saw at the mall thinks you’re cute. Don’t ask or tell us about your personal life. But, chances are, if you have to ask us,...

How many senses do you have?
At least nine. The five we all know about: Sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch, were first proposed by Aristotle, but there are now four more which are agreed among scientists to be official senses, these are: 1. Thermoception – the sense of heat (or it’s absence) on our skin, 2. Equilibrioception – our sense of balance, which is determined by the fluid filled cavities in our inner ear. ...
